Our Electrical Certificate of Compliance Services
An Electrical Certificate of Compliance (COC) is a legal document that certifies that electrical installations within a property meet the required safety standards as outlined by South African law.
This certificate is essential for any property owner to ensure the electrical work is safe and compliant with regulations to prevent potential hazards like electrical fires or shocks.
This will provide peace of mind and is necessary when selling a property or making any major electrical changes to ensure the safety and legality of the installation.
We provide COCs for:
- Offices and other commercial buildings
- Homes and complexes
- Factories and plants
- Farms
- Any other properties

What is an Electrical Certificate of Compliance (COC)?
It’s an official certificate issued by a registered electrician that proves your home or business electrical installation is 100 % safe and complies with SANS 10142-1 regulations. Without a valid COC you can’t legally sell or transfer a property.
When do you need an Electrical COC?
- When you sell or buy a property (the seller must provide one not older than 2 years)
- After any electrical additions or alterations (new plugs, lights, DB board, solar, etc.)
- When your insurance company demands one (especially after a claim is rejected)
- When the municipality requests one for new connections or meter changes
- Every 2 years for commercial properties, pools, spas and some body corporates
What does the COC inspection check?
We test everything: earthing, polarity, trip times on earth leakage, insulation resistance, correct breaker sizes, bonding of metal pipes, surge protection, and that there are no dangerous faults or illegal connections.
How long does it take to get a COC?
- If everything is perfect: about 45–90 minutes on site and you get the certificate same day.
- If small faults are found: we fix them on the spot (95 % of cases) and issue immediately.
- Bigger issues: we quote the repairs, fix fast, then issue.
What happens if my installation fails the COC test?
No problem! We never just walk away. We give you a detailed fault list, quote the repairs (usually small things), fix them quickly and only then issue the COC. One price, one visit in most cases.
How long is an Electrical COC valid for?
For property sales: 2 years from date of issue (as long as no changes are made).
If you add or change anything electrical after that, a new COC is required for that work.
Can you issue a COC for work done by someone else?
Yes. We inspect, test and take responsibility. If it’s safe we issue the certificate. If not, we tell you exactly what needs fixing.
Do you register the COC with the ECA or municipality?
Yes. Every COC we issue is fully registered and traceable online with the Electrical Contractors Association of South Africa.
