Why does my distribution board (DB) need upgrading?
Old boards are too small, don’t have proper earth leakage, use old fuses instead of breakers, or can’t handle today’s loads (geyser, air-con, inverter, EV charger). Upgrading prevents trips, fires and makes insurance happy.
How do I know if my house needs rewiring?
Red flags: house over 25–30 years old, aluminium wiring, cloth-covered wires, only one or two plugs per room, frequent blowing of breakers, warm sockets, or you’ve never had a COC. We do a free safety check.
Is partial rewiring possible or must I do the whole house?
Most homes only need sections done (kitchen, geyser circuit, lounge). We rewire only what’s dangerous or undersized and leave the rest untouched when requested.
How long does a full DB upgrade take?
95 % of residential DB replacements are done in 4–6 hours. We schedule it with you, switch off for the shortest time possible and you have power again the same day.
Can you make my DB “solar-ready” during the upgrade?
Yes. We fit the correct busbar, surge protection and space for a hybrid/solar inverter so you can add solar later without opening the board again.
My insurance rejected my claim because of an old DB – can you help?
Yes. We replace the board, issue a new COC and give you the paperwork most insurers accept immediately.
How long does a new DB board last?
A modern board with quality breakers (CBI, Schneider, ABB) easily lasts 25–40 years.
